Employers are being urged to assess and manage heat stress at the workplace, to minimize the impact of hot weather conditions.

The Occupational Safety and Health Department says this is vital to protect workers – especially those who work outdoors – from suffering heat stroke and other health conditions.

This, as parts of the country continue to be hit by prolonged hot weather conditions.

Currently…16 areas in Kedah, Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak are under a level one heat alert.

-

In a related development, amendments to the Occupational Safety and Health Act in June will allow workers to remove themselves from unsafe work environments without fear of discrimination.

The HR Ministry says the amendments will also make employers responsible for analysing risks at the workplace.

-

The families of the recent Lumut twin helicopter crash will be provided with counselling.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry says the offer is open at any time to the next-of-kin, based on their needs.

-

Authorities in Manjung, Perak say they have captured a dog which had chased a child onto a main road, and almost caused him to be run over by a car.

The local council says the dog is not a stray…and may be put down if it is deemed to be dangerous.

-

Elsewhere, World Central Kitchen is resuming its food distribution operations in Gaza…nearly a month after seven of its workers were killed there in an Israeli air strike.
