Uptick in new Covid-19 infections

There’s been an uptick in Covid-19 infections nationwide.
1,739 new cases were reported yesterday…an increase from the 1,500-plus the day before.
Selangor accounted for most of yesterday’s infections – with 535 cases…while Sarawak, Sabah and Penang also reported new cases in the triple digits.
There were also eight new fatalities yesterday…bringing the national death toll to 1,329.

Selangor is stepping up preparations to vaccinate its residents…with the start of the second phase of the National Immunization Program just days away.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari says they’ve already identified 25 venues to be used as vaccination centers, including community centers, convention centers and hospitals.
The second phase of the vaccination program – which will involve the elderly, the disabled and those with co-morbidities – will kick off this Saturday.

A total of 65 Ramadan bazaars have been allowed to operate in KL during the fasting month.
There will be strict SOP’s in place for all locations…including maintaining physical distancing, registering via MySejahtera, and getting temperature checks before entry.
This, as Kelantan said Ramadan bazaars and tarawih prayers will not be allowed this year…due to a rise in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Consumer groups are calling on eateries to stop charging their customers for plain water.
The Consumer Association of Penang told the NST that restaurants are already making a profit from their food and drinks…and should offer water for free.
Meanwhile the Federation of Malaysian Consumer Associations or FOMCA says charging around 30 sen for water is still acceptable…with anything more being unfair on the consumer.
Their comments come following reports that some food outlets were charging as much as 1 ringgit for water.
