Malaysia to go under total lockdown from June 1
May 29, 2021
The whole country will go under a total lockdown for a two-week period, starting June1st.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says only the essential economic and services sectors are allowed to operate during this period.
The National Security Council will provide a list of the essential sectors that can open during the lockdown soon.
The Finance Ministry, meanwhile, will provide details of an aid package for the people and affected economic sectors.
This as Malaysia reached a record high number of new COVID-19 cases, with 8,290 infections yesterday.
The Health Ministry also reported 61 fatalities, raising the death toll to 2,552.
Parents and guardians as well as kindergarten and daycare centre operators must take measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19 infections among children.
The Women, Family and Community Development Minister says the number of cases involving kids is worrying and must be given attention.
The Health Ministry is expected to begin Phase 3 of the vaccination programme next month.
It says the third phase for those aged 18 and above is part of efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, especially among the younger generation, which is of growing concern.
