Rules eased for more businesses in Phase 1 states
Aug 15, 2021
The government has lifted restrictions for 11 types of economic activities starting tomorrow, for the fully vaccinated in areas still under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan.
In a statement this morning, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said a pre-requisite for this is that at least 50 percent of the adult population in these Phase 1 areas needs to be fully vaccinated.
The 11 businesses are barbershops and hair salons, car wash shops, electrical shops, household appliances and kitchen supply shops, furniture shops, sporting goods shops, jewellery shops, clothing and personal accessory shops, morning and farmers markets, car accessory shops and car sales showrooms.
Premise owners are required to conduct checks to ensure that all customers who are allowed in, have their digital vaccine certificate to prove that they have been fully immunised.
Public recreation parks in states under Phase 1 will also be allowed to re-open.
Meanwhile, a further 11 business sectors in states under Phase Two will be allowed to operate from tomorrow.
This includes cosmetic shops, flower shops and plant nurseries, as well as shops selling tobacco and e-cigarettes.
The government has also agreed to allow all non-essential activities in the manufacturing, construction, mining and quarrying sectors to resume operations in states under Phases 1,2 and 3.
Capacity for operations will depend on the number of workers who have been vaccinated.
Meanwhile, the government is also studying proposals to make Pulau Langkawi a bubble tourism destination under a pilot project, once 80 percent of the residents there have been fully immunized.
Once approved, groups of fully vaccinated visitors will be allowed to travel to the island.
