COVID-19 case detected on first day of VTL

The Health Ministry has reported the first COVID-19 case involving the Malaysia-Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lane.

Khairy Jamaluddin says the case was found during screening at the Johor Causeway entry point.

Despite the infection, the minister believes such an incident will not derail the VTL.

Instead, it is proof of the importance of pre-departure and on-arrival testing, to enable our borders to reopen safely.

Rapid antigen and RT-PCR tests can detect Omicron variant

RTK-Antigen and RT-PCR tests are effective in detecting COVID-19 cases linked to the new Omicron variant.

The Health Minister says experts from the Institute of Medical Research are now working to further understand the new strain.

Khairy Jamaluddin adds that vaccine authorities are also studying the effectiveness of jabs against Omicron.

On another note, Khairy says it is still too early for calls of another Movement Control Order.

Malaysia-Singapore Land VTL to expand to more travellers

Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to expand the land Vaccinated Travel Lane to all categories of travellers.

Those currently allowed to use the VTL are citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders.

PM Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the travel scheme will include additional bus services routes.

It will also gradually include personal vehicles.

This, as both the air and land VTLs kicked off today.
