Warning system activated at detention depots

The warning system at two detention centres, namely in Selangor and Perak, have been activated.
The Immigration Department says its to prevent a repeat of an earlier breakout at the Sungai Bakap detention center.
It adds that investigations on the escape are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, police in Perak say over 240 roadblocks have been mounted along the state’s borders in Taiping, Selama, and Kerian, which are close to Penang and Kedah.
Yesterday, over 500 detainees fled the Sungai Bakap depot, while 6 were killed in the escape.

Kedah police to look into detention depot breakout
Police in Penang say an investigation into the breakout at the Sungai Bakap detention centre will be conducted by Kedah police.
The Penang Police chief says it's because the depot is located in Kedah.
Yesterday, over 500 detainees fled the detention centre, while six were killed in the escape.
So far, over a hundred detainees are still at large.

6,968 new COVID-19 cases; 16 fatalities
Malaysia reported a rise in daily COVID-19 infections at 6,968 yesterday, which is almost 900 cases more than the previous day’s tally.
Meanwhile, a further 16 fatalities were recorded nationwide, including 8 brought in dead cases.
Most of the deaths were in Penang, Perak, and Kedah.
There were also some 8,000 recoveries.
