New COVID wave expected to hit sooner than predicted

The Health Minister expects Malaysia to face a new wave of COVID-19 infections earlier than predicted in the next two to three months.

Khairy Jamaluddin says however there is no need to panic, as the country is prepared to face the new wave.

He says it is important that authorities determine the severity of the new wave and that the number of deaths and ICU admissions remains under control.

KJ also reminded senior citizens to take the second COVID booster shot as a precaution against the expected new wave.

Workers can apply for flexible work arrangement in September

Employees will be allowed to apply to work on a flexible basis starting September 1st.

The HR Ministry says applications for Flexible Working Arrangements must be made in writing and can cover changes in working hours, working days, and places of work.

On another note, the ministry says SOCSO has paid out over RM180 million in COVID-19 benefit claims since 2020.

So far, it has received more than 230 thousand applications and over 70% of them have been approved.

No monkeypox cases reported in Malaysia

The Health Minister says no cases of monkeypox have been reported here in Malaysia.  

Khairy Jamaluddin says the ministry has so far received five notifications of suspected monkeypox infection.

However, all five cases have tested negative for the disease.
