hr ministry eases concerns over entry of foreign workers

The expected arrival of about half a million foreign workers this year, will not affect job opportunities for locals.

The Human Resources Ministry explained that these new arrivals will be taking up jobs that are normally shunned by Malaysians…such as farming and construction.

It adds that the foreign manpower is important, to help the local economy continue its recovery from the effects of the pandemic.

The status of Sabah and Sarawak as regions in Malaysia has yet to be gazetted.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg says the change of status is still in the proposal stage, but will be discussed during the MA63 meeting with the Federal government this week.

Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said in a speech, that Sabah and Sarawak had been accorded the status of regions, and would no longer be regarded as states.

The rising cost of food is proving to be an area of concern for Malaysians.

85 percent of respondents in an Astro Awani survey on the cost of living, named costlier food as their biggest worry.

12 percent picked the cost of medicine as their biggest concern…while the rest were distressed by costlier transportation.

A social media poster about an investment scheme featuring an image of Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof is fake.

The Deputy Prime Minister clarified that he did not allow his image to be used for this purpose…adding that he’s lodging a police report over the matter.
