Anwar: No GST For Now
Mar 14, 2023
Malaysia will only consider reintroducing the Goods and Services Tax, once Malaysians have better income.
PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says it doesn't make sense to bring GST back now, as salaries are still low.
He adds that other countries with GST, such as Singapore and Canada, have a higher income level compared to Malaysia.
Datuk Seri Anwar also says instead of GST, the government is looking to increase its revenue by introducing new taxes such as the Luxury Goods tax.

Speaking of which, the Finance Ministry says details of the proposed luxury goods tax will be announced in June...
Its deputy minister says the details are still being fine-tuned.
The new tax was proposed during Budget 2023, on luxury goods such as watches and clothes.
