pas denies claims of support for hadi as pm

PAS has denied the authenticity of a viral statement, claiming that party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had gained enough support to become Prime Minister.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed the statement is fake, and has nothing to do with any of those mentioned.

The statement had claimed that 115 MP’s had given their written support for Abdul Hadi to become the next PM.

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress is calling for a review of the employers’ EPF contribution rate.

It says the rate was last increased over 10 years ago, with another hike necessary to increase contributors’ retirement savings amid the higher cost of living.

This comes after the Prime Minister recently announced that the Cabinet would study proposals for employers to increase their EPF contributions.

However, several business groups have since spoken out against the move, due to the higher cost that they would have to incur.

All institutions under the Education Ministry have been instructed to temporarily suspend outdoor activities amid the hot weather.

It’s the latest step by the ministry to prevent cases of heatstroke, having earlier announced that teachers and students would be allowed to wear sports attire to school to help them keep cool.

-

Meanwhile, the Pahang Health Department has clarified that a boy who was airlifted from Pulau Tioman earlier this week did not suffer from heatstroke, but was evacuated after being diagnosed with meningitis.

-

In a related development, the Met Department has forecast heavy rain and strong winds for Labuan, Sabah and Northern Sarawak until this Sunday, due to the squall line phenomenon.
