KKM: No New Covid Variants Detected

Dec 29, 2023

kkm: no new covid variants detected

So far, no new Covid-19 variants have been detected in Malaysia

The Health Ministry says Omicron remains the dominant variant here, as well as several of its subvariants, which do not to lead to severe cases.

Its minister adds that the Covid situation here is still under control, as most cases only show mild symptoms that don't require hospitalisation.

According to the ministry's KKM Now portal, nearly 3,500 new cases were reported as of last week.

Meanwhile there were 33 thousand active cases.

Just over 17,000 people are now at temporary flood shelters in 4 states.

The number in Kelantan has dropped to 16, while nearly 1,500 people are displaced in Terengganu.

There are 120 evacuees in Pahang and 55 in Johor.

Authorities are still investigating the death of an elevator technician in Penang, who was killed while doing maintenance work.

State officials say the victim's employer will face action if it's found that they violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Earlier reports said the technician died, after his head was crushed by the elevator's doors.
