Government Mulls Social Media Controls

The government is looking into implementing some form of controls for social media.
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says this follows the increase in cyber security, privacy, and copyright issues, as well as indecent content on these platforms.
The Minister adds that such monitoring would ensure that platform operators abide by the set guidelines to protect the rights of consumers.

The Education Ministry will soon hold talks with the Communications Ministry…regarding the issue of kids under 13 owning TikTok accounts.
The Education Minister says they need to get all the information first, before considering any form of guidelines or controls on the matter.

Separately, the Education Ministry is also urging parents to monitor the health of their school-going kids amid rising temperatures caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
It adds that the remaining school term will proceed as usual – but with extra cautionary measures by school authorities.

The Health Ministry will be taking action against a trendy new product called Energy Sticks that are targeted at kids.
The nasal inhaler, which is commonly filled with oils or mint, is said to be hugely popular among primary and secondary school students in China.
The ministry says its already received multiple complaints about the product, which is being sold locally for as low as 2 ringgit 50.
