According to Bukit Aman's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, 1,999 accidents were reported yesterday, with 12 deaths.

MetMalaysia has again reminded people to limit their outdoor activities, to reduce the risk of heatstroke amid the ongoing hot spell.

The department also urged people to refrain from open burning during this period.

It says besides the health risks, the smoke from open burning can also contribute to rising temperatures.

--

Meanwhile, MetMalaysia has issued a Level-2 Heatwave Alert for Perlis, after the state reported temperatures of between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.

13 other areas in the Peninsular were under a Level-1 alert today, in Kedah, Perak, Pahang and KL.

--

Cloud seeding operations will be conducted in Sabah once there is enough cloud coverage.

The deputy chief minister says the state government is working with MetMalaysia to determine the best time to conduct the operation, amid the drought there.

Recently, Sabah said the hot weather has caused water levels at rivers in 5 districts to fall between 10 percent to 40 percent.

--

Meanwhile, the federal government has instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to prepare for eventual problems linked to the hot weather.

This includes measures to combat open burning, and preparations to deal with any haze.
