Mar 19, 2024

msia averages 16-18 accident deaths daily

The govt will continue with efforts to raise our road safety awareness.

This includes the recent directive for police to publish daily accident statistics.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke says it needs to be done, to help reduce our rate of road accidents, and road fatalities.

"Every day, an average of 16-18 people lose their lives in accidents. We need to raise awareness so that people will always be careful," he said.

This is on top of enforcement activities, such as the installation of AWAS Speed Trap cameras at accident hotspots.

Loke says last year, over half a million notices were given to motorists who were caught speeding by these cameras.

Meanwhile, PDRM says more than 1,900 road accidents were reported yesterday, while there were 16 deaths.

This is 700 accidents more than what was reported for Sunday.

Authorities are finalising the framework for social media platforms and instant messaging providers to be licensed with the MCMC.

The Communications Ministry says it's part of efforts to protect users from scammers and harmful content.

27 other areas were under a less severe Level-1 heat alert... throughout the west coast of the Peninsular, as well as in Pahang and Sabah.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry says the proposed Lemon Law for defective vehicles could be expanded to cover sales of used cars as well.
