Volcano Eruption Forces Flight Cancellations

Two local airlines have cancelled today’s flights between KL and Sabah and Sarawak …due to smoke and ash from the eruption of the Mount Ruang volcano in Indonesia.
Passengers are urged to check with their respective carriers for the latest updates.
The volcano, in the North Sulawesi province, has erupted several times this week…pushing ash clouds several kilometers up into the sky.

There are still around 760 victims seeking shelter at flood relief centers in three states.
The National Disaster Management Agency says most of the victims are from the Klang, Petaling and Kuala Selangor districts of Selangor.
The rest are in Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan…and Alor Gajah Melaka.

There was a nearly 300 percent increase in traffic summonses issued during the recent Ops Selamat, compared to last year’s festive season operation.
The cops say there were over 114 thousand summonses handed out this time around…compared to just under 30 thousand during the last edition.
However, the number of traffic accidents saw a slight decline to some 8,800 cases.

Former Sabah deputy chief minister Tan Sri Joseph Kurup has passed away at the age of 80 due to heart complications.
He was also a founding member of Parti Bersatu Sabah and held various ministerial posts at state and federal level.

More than half of respondents to a new IPSOS survey said they generally agree that the country is heading in the right direction.
Of the 47 percent who disagreed – most cited corruption and the introduction of new taxes as the reason.
