sg golok violence: no msians involved

Police have confirmed that no Malaysians were caught up in the violence in southern Thailand early this morning.

This, after four Thai security personnel were injured, in a bomb blast and shooting incident in the border province of Narathiwat.

The Kelantan police chief says authorities have since stepped up security along the shared border.

It has also offered to help Thai authorities with their investigations.

Separately, the Kelantan police chief says cops have wrapped up their investigation into pedophilia allegations involving a teacher in the state.

He says after recording statements from several individuals, cops have not found any evidence to back the allegation.

The black box belonging to the Maritim Malaysia helicopter that made an emergency landing in waters off Pulau Angsa, Selangor in March has been sent to its manufacturer in Italy for analysis.

The Home Ministry says the device was located recently, but it was too damaged for the data to be retrieved here.

The chopper went down during a rescue exercise, but no one on board was hurt.

Chegu Bard has pleaded not guilty at a court in KL on charges of criminal defamation and sedition.

The Bersatu activist's lawyer says he will face further charges in Johor tomorrow.

--

According to Bukit Aman traffic police, 1,612 road accidents were reported nationwide yesterday, with 15 fatalities.

This means that Malaysia has reported an average of over 1,800 crashes daily, since PDRM started publishing the data in mid-March.
