Scam Calls On The Rise

Mar 04, 2025

scam calls on the rise

Scam calls in Malaysia skyrocketed by nearly 83% last year!

According to the Whoscall Annual Report 2024, the most common calls reported involved banking fraud and fake debt collection followed by scammers impersonating authorities or businesses.

Meanwhile, financial losses from scams surged to over 1.5 billion ringgit.

Police say these numbers are alarming because it means scammers are shifting their tactics, making it increasingly difficult to detect, especially for the elderly.

-

The MACC has frozen over 60 bank accounts worth 15 million ringgit in connection with the illegal processing and disposal of e-waste.

The commission adds that 26 people have also been arrested.

-

The Sabah government could implement an age restriction for those climbing Mount Kinabalu, as part of efforts to enhance safety.

This, following the death of two elderly men while attempting to scale the mountain over the past few weeks.

-

The Health Ministry has assured that it's taken steps against medical inflation and rising health insurance premiums, and that the issue should be resolved soon.

-

The government says there are no plans at the moment for concert goers to undergo urine tests, following the drug-related deaths of several people who attended a New Year's Eve countdown concert last year.

-

KTMB will provide four additional ETS trains for the KL-Padang Besar and KL-Butterworth routes to meet higher demand in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
