SMART Team Deployed To Myanmar

Malaysia has mobilized a team to join the search and rescue operation in earthquake-hit Myanmar.

The Deputy Prime Minister says they should spend around 14 days there, although the duration of the deployment will depend on the situation on the ground.

He adds that the Malaysian mission comprises personnel from the Armed Forces, Police as well as the Fire and Rescue Department, who will all be operating under the Special Disaster Assistance and Rescue or SMART Team.

Meanwhile, the Civil Defense Force says its prepared to provide humanitarian assistance to help the earthquake victims in Myanmar.

It says it has medical officers and logistics experts who can all be placed on standby if required.

This, as the death toll from the earthquake in Myanmar approached 1,700.

In Thailand…eight fatalities have been confirmed from the building-under-construction that collapsed in Bangkok…with around 80 still unaccounted for.

In other news, Met Malaysia has forecast wet weather for most states, in the morning noon and night over Hari Raya.

Meanwhile, the government has assured there’ll be sufficient supply of essential goods nationwide for the Aidilfitri period, saying there’ve so far only been minimal reports of any shortages.

Police have opened an investigation into an incident in Jalan TAR…where an unlicensed ballon seller got into a physical altercation with DBKL officers.

And, Johor has completely recovered from flooding, with all evacuees allowed to return home.
