The government is concerned about the high number of road accident fatalities involving youths.

The DPM says youths account for around 90 percent of the average six thousand road fatalities every year, causing a huge loss to the country’s future generations.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the matter requires urgent intervention, and called on government agencies, youth groups and the private sector to take proactive measures.

The Border Control and Protection Agency is stepping up preparations along all major entry points, ahead of next week’s ASEAN summit in KL.

This is to ensure a smooth arrival process for the delegates and also to maintain national security.

The government earlier said it is anticipating about 20 thousand delegates, representatives and participants at the summit.

The Higher Education Ministry has received over 328 thousand applications from SPM and STPM leavers via its UPUonline system to pursue tertiary education in public universities.

In a related development… more than a hundred thousand applications have already been sent in for TVET programs, with the figure expected to rise to 150 thousand before next month’s deadline.
