be careful of wildlife on east-west highway

Perhilitan is advising small vehicles to avoid using the East-West Highway at night, to prevent potential attacks by wild animals, including elephants.

The department says elephant herds are particularly active along the route at night, as they search for food.

Its also advising road users not to honk or turn on their high-beams if they encounter elephants, to avoid provoking the animals.

This comes as a group of elephants attacked a car along the Gerik-Jeli stretch of the highway last night, after being startled by honking.

The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency is investigating four of its officers, for allegedly helping foreign nationals bypass Immigration checks at KLIA.

It says it views the matter seriously, and will not compromise with any officers found guilty of misconduct.

The agency adds that it also detained 25 foreign nationals attempting to leave the country, having entered Malaysia by obtaining unlawful approval.

Biotechnologist Dr. S. Ravigadevi has been elected as a fellow of the Royal Society, and will become the first Malaysian in the world’s oldest and most prestigious scientific academy, when she is officially inducted.

A new report from the International Labour Organisation shows that approximately one quarter of all jobs worldwide are potentially at risk from Artificial Intelligence.

Some of the jobs most under threat are those in the clerical, media, software development and finance fields.

The United Nations says aid has yet to be distributed in the Gaza Strip, despite Israel allowing supplies in after an 11-week blockade.

Officials say this is because of delays in obtaining Israeli approval for relief teams on the ground to access the supplies.
