Fatal UPSI Bus Crash - What Has Happened So Far

Police have formed a special task force to investigate this morning's fatal accident, involving a bus carrying UPSI students.
Bukit Aman says besides the police, the task force also has reps agencies including the JPJ, Land Public Transport Agency, Puspakom and Public Works Dept.
14 students and the bus' second driver were killed in the incident, which happened along the East West Highway near Grik.
Meanwhile, Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin has promised a thorough investigation, which will cover angles including possible negligence and technical issues.
He also urged witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation, amid reports that the bus may have been speeding.
Cops add that the vehicle did NOT have a dashcam installed.
Meanwhile, the government has pledged to revise SOPs and safety protocols for bus rentals involving students.
This, after UPSI confirmed that the bus was chartered by the students themselves, to take them back to the university from Terengganu after the recent Hari Raya Aidiladha holiday.
Also, the company that owns the bus has promised to give its full cooperation to the probe.
It adds that the vehicle was in good condition and well maintained, while the driver and assistant had 10 years of experience.
The families of students who died in the crash will receive financial assistance of RM2,000 from the Higher Education Ministry, plus another RM1,000 from UPSI.
The Perak and Terengganu governments also pledged financial aid.
