PDRM: Too Soon To Confirm UPSI Bus Crash Cause

Jun 10, 2025

pdrm: too soon to confirm upsi bus crash cause

It is still too soon to determine what caused yesterday's bus crash that killed 15 UPSI students along the East West Highway.

As such the Deputy IGP urged people to give the police space to conduct their investigations, and avoid any speculation.

This, amid reports claiming that the bus may have been speeding at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman's traffic enforcement department says the bus driver had previously received 18 summonses for traffic offences including speeding.

The driver, who was injured in the crash, has since issued an apology to the victims' families.

He also claimed that the vehicle suffered a brake failure at the time of the incident.

--

In response to the crash, the Transport Ministry says it's considering several new safety SOPs for heavy vehicles.

This includes making it mandatory for them to have dashcams, while buses may be required to install sensors to ensure that passengers wear seatbelts.

Also, stricter enforcement is needed to ensure that heavy vehicle operators do NOT tamper or disable speed limiters.

The ministry said this following yesterday's tragic bus accident that killed 15 UPSI students along the East West Highway in Perak.

--

Meanwhile, the Law and Institutional Reform Minister has proposed introducing a corporate liability law.

She says such legislation would allow companies to face prosecution for negligence or other acts that cause harm to workers or members of the public.

--

The National Registration Department has reminded that security guards do not have the authority to request, hold or scan people's MyKads.

It was responding to a recent social media post, claiming that a security guard had used an electronic device to scan a person's MyKad.
