AGC Appeals Influencer's Light Sentence

Jul 29, 2025

agc appeals influencer's light sentence

The Attorney General's chambers has lodged an appeal against the punishment handed to an influencer and his brother, for faking the influencer's disappearance.

The duo had pleaded guilty to lodging a false police report and were each fined RM1,500 and jailed for a month.

However, this led to criticism that the penalties were too low.

The motoring influencer was reported missing earlier this month, after his car was found submerged in a river in Johor.

It was later revealed that the influencer faked his disappearance in order to escape financial problems.

This is after the Education Ministry tabled a bill in the Dewan Rakyat, that would make it compulsory for students to complete their secondary education.

The bill's second reading is expected to take place during the current parliamentary sitting.

Under the proposed legislation, parents who fail to comply will face a maximum penalty of RM5,000 and up to six months in prison.

The US has hailed PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership, in helping broker a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia.

Secretary of State Marco also hailed the ceasefire declaration, which ended days of cross-border fighting between the two countries.

The truce came about after Datuk Seri Anwar, as the ASEAN Chair, hosted a meeting between the two countries’ leaders in Putrajaya yesterday afternoon.
