Calls For Improved Bullying Complaints System

Aug 21, 2025

calls for improved bullying complaints system

The government's current bullying complaint system has room for improvement.

Suhakam says what we need is a one-stop center system...capable of filtering and directing complaints directly to the relevant agencies.

The commission adds that the current platform is also not child friendly, and suffers from barriers such as digital inequality, language gaps, and a lack of accessibility for people with disabilities.

-

Separately, The Home Ministry will seek clarification from Johor police over their handling of a bullying case involving a 10-year-old cancer survivor there.

This, amid concerns surrounding claims that cops allegedly attempted to mediate a resolution between the victim and perpetrator, rather than launch an investigation.

The number of public university students seeking counselling is low.

The Higher Education Ministry says over 400 students were referred to counsellors last year, representing less than one percent of the total number of students.

It explained that there could be two reasons for this, either there is a lack of awareness among students regarding the counselling service, or their mental health is at a good level.

However, the ministry assured that a comprehensive study on the matter is currently being carried out.

-

The Works Ministry has revealed that the nation is facing a shortage of around 100 thousand engineers to meet the country's development needs.

However, it assured that efforts are already underway to address the issue, especially through TVET programs.

Authorities have warned Malaysians to beware of a fake Tik Tok account using AI to mimic the voice of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia allegedly promising financial assistance.

-

And the Israeli military says it has begun the first stages of a planned assault to capture and occupy all of Gaza City.

It adds that troops already have a hold on several positions on the outskirts of the city.
