Unrest Worsens In Nepal

Demonstrators have set Nepal’s parliament building in Kathmandu on fire, amid some of the worst unrest the country has seen in decades.
Other government buildings, public property and private homes are also being targeted across Nepal.
There’ve also been reports of ministers, as well as past and current politicians being personally attacked by the protestors.
This, despite the Prime Minister announcing that he is stepping down in response to the anti-corruption demonstrations, which have so far led to at least 22 fatalities.
Nepal’s army chief says security forces are ready to move in if the unrest worsens, although he did not give details.
Meanwhile, Wisma Putra says there’ve been no reports so far of Malaysians getting caught up in the violence.
However, it is urging all our nationals there to remain vigilant and to avoid any conflict areas.

Separately, the Malaysian embassy in Doha says no Malaysians were affected by yesterday’s explosion in the Qatari capital.
Its also advising our nationals there to remain on alert.
The blast is said to have been caused by an Israeli attack targeting senior Hamas officials in Doha, killing at least five people.
Meanwhile, our government has strongly condemned the Israeli strike in Qatar.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the attack is a blatant breach of international law, that endangered civilian lives in a sovereign country.

The Higher Education Ministry has defended the UPUOnline system, adding that there are no loopholes or gaps in the system.
It also assured that all admissions into public universities are based on merit...using academic and co-curricular achievements.
This, amid a viral case where a top STPM scorer was denied a place in UM's accountancy program despite having a 99.9 percent merit score.
The ministry explained that nearly half of the eligible applicants had achieved 100% merit, while UM only offered 85 places for accountancy.

The PM has confirmed that US President Donald Trump will visit Malaysia next month or the 47th ASEAN Summit.
He adds that Russian President Vladimir Putin is also considering attending the meeting.
