govt mobilises support for sabah

All response agencies have been mobilized to step up flood and landslide relief operations in Sabah.

DPM Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi – who is also chairman of the Central Disaster Management Committee – says department heads and district officers have also been briefed about taking immediate action.

So far, a total of 21 million ringgit has been approved to help restore essential services and provide immediate relief for the affected families.

This, as 12 people, including children, were killed in two separate landslides in Kota Kinabalu and Papar yesterday.

This brings the total number of fatalities from landslides in KK, Papar and Penampang since last Thursday to 13.

There are also more than 1,800 individuals currently seeking shelter at flood relief centers across Sabah.

Meanwhile, at last look… a further 400 evacuees have also been forced to seek shelter in flood relief centers in Selangor, Perak, and Negeri Sembilan.
