6,000 students down with influenza

Some six thousand school students nationwide have been infected with the influenza virus.

The Education Ministry says this has prompted the temporary closure of several schools, upon the advice of the district health office.

It adds that the Examinations Board has also been instructed to be on standby for any eventuality, with the SPM exams set to begin next month.

Similarly, higher learning institutions have also been told to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of influenza among students.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department has been carrying out dredging work to widen and deepen rivers around the country.

This is to ensure better flow of floodwater, during the upcoming Northeast Monsoon.

In other news…the Finance Ministry says full-time e-hailing drivers will now be entitled to 600 liters of subsidzed fuel a month under the Budi95 scheme, which is double the previous quota.

Nine essential items including mutton, tomatoes, onions and coconuts will be placed under the price control scheme from this Thursday, in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.

PDRM says there will be road closures and diversions around KLIA on October 26th…with the Malaysian MotoGP in Sepang coinciding with the arrival of ministers for the ASEAN summit.

And, Hamas has returned all 20 living Israeli hostages while Israel freed almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees. 

This was immediately followed by the US and other regional leaders signing a declaration to cement a ceasefire in Gaza…the first step towards ending the two-year war there.
