Starting next year, traffic offenders will get discounts based on how quickly to pay their summonses.

The Transport Ministry says under the new system, you’ll get a 50 percent discount if you settle your fine within 15 days.

This goes down to 33 percent for those pay their summonses within 16 to 30 days.

Those who take longer than 31 days, will have to pay the full amount.

The Ministry adds that those who fail to settle the compound after 61 days, will be subjected to court proceedings.

This, after it was revealed that the country’s outstanding traffic summons backlog currently stands at an estimated 6.6 billion ringgit.

In other news… the 14-year-old suspect in the Bandar Utama school stabbing, was charged at the PJ Magistrate’s court today with murdering his schoolmate.

No plea was recorded, since murder charges fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court, while the boy was also ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The Communications Ministry is working on tightening regulations to limit each person to only two pre-paid sim cards per telco to prevent phone numbers from being misused for fraud, misinformation, and crime.

The government spokesperson says US President Donald Trump will be arriving in KL this Sunday for the ASEAN Summit…although no further details were provided about the trip.

Meanwhile, Rapid KL will be extending its peak hour operations and increasing its service frequency to cater to the added demand for public transport during the ASEAN Summit.

The Home Ministry has revealed that the fireworks explosion in Kulim, Kedah that left 22 people injured, had involved the use of explosives which are prohibited for public sale.

And, the Civil Defence Force is urging the public to avoid hiking and other outdoor activities in forests and hills to prevent untoward incidents during the Northeast Monsoon.
