Cops On Standby For ASEAN Summit

There will be a heightened police presence in and around KL over the coming week for the ASEAN Summit.

PDRM says some 10 thousand personnel, including plainclothes officers, will be deployed to maintain security and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

The IGP is also urging Malaysians to remain law-abiding and respectful, and to avoid engaging in any acts that could threaten public order.

Meanwhile, there will be a full rehearsal today and tomorrow, for the phased road closures and traffic diversions for the ASEAN Summit.

It will be conducted once in the morning until 8.45AM…and again in the evening until 7.45.

In a related development, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the ASEAN Summit after all.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says Moscow will be represented by its Deputy PM instead.

The JPJ and PDRM will be standardizing their traffic compound rates and enforcement methods from January 1^st.

The Transport Ministry says this is to eliminate the discrepancies between the two agencies, that had led to the perception of inconsistent road law enforcement.

The Education Ministry is establishing a special committee to study what restructuring is required to make preschool education compulsory at the age of five.

One person was killed while another suffered injuries, in two separate incidents of trees falling on their cars during yesterday’s heavy downpour in Persiaran Dutamas and Kepong in KL respectively.

In Johor…police have busted a notorious house break-in and vehicle theft gang, with the recent arrest of the group’s 21-year-old alleged mastermind.

And, the Finance Ministry says the retail price of RON97 and diesel in the peninsular is down by four sen per liter for the coming week.
