Malaysian students in US may need to leave country

Jul 07, 2020

Malaysian students in the US face potential uncertainty, following a new ruling by immigration officials there.

Under the move, international students in the US will have to leave the country if their universities switch to online-only learning, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

America's Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency says such students would be breaching their visa statuses if they don't leave.

It adds that the US will not issue visas to students enrolled in schools that are fully online this fall, and they won't be allowed to enter the country.

Malaysia reports 6 new COVID-19 cases

Malaysia's total number of COVID-19 cases now stands at 8,674, after 6 new cases were reported today.

Only two involve local transmissions, while the rest are imported cases.

Meanwhile five more patients were released from hospital, bringing the number of ACTIVE infections to 72.

The death toll still stands at 121.

Parliament sitting attendees to follow COVID-19 health guidelines

Those attending the upcoming Parliamentary sitting must adhere to all relevant SOPs.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says this includes wearing a face mask, using a hand sanitiser, and practising social distancing.

He adds that only MPs and officers will be allowed in the Dewan Rakyat, while civil servants and the media can be present in the Parliament building.

The Dewan Rakyat will be in session for 7 weeks from July 13th.
