Returning Malaysians to test for COVID-19 three days before flight

Jul 14, 2020

Malaysians who want to return from overseas must now be tested for COVID-19, three days before their scheduled flight.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says it’s to avoid any potential complications, because many airlines require proof that passengers are free of the coronavirus, before being allowed to board.

On another note, he reminded Malaysians who are undergoing home quarantine after returning from overseas to remain isolated for the entire two week period, and not interact with any family members.

This is after a new COVID-19 cluster emerged, involving a student who came back from Russia.

Singapore - Malaysia border to reopen next month

Malaysia and Singapore have reached an agreement to reopen their shared border from next month, starting August 10th.

In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of both countries says it will allow for essential business and official travellers to commute across the causeway.

Travellers on essential business and official purposes will be swabbed upon entry and are required to submit an itinerary for their visit.

Meanwhile, citizens with long-term immigration passes will be allowed to enter either country for work purposes.

Malaysia reports no local COVID-19 transmissions

4 new COVID-19 cases were reported today, and all of them were individuals returning from overseas.

Meanwhile there are 83 active cases remaining in hospital, while the death toll is unchanged at 122.
