1,290 new COVID-19 cases

Malaysia’s number of new COVID-19 cases has returned to four digits today with 1,290 infections.

Sabah reported the highest tally with 660, followed by 407 in Selangor.

Meanwhile, four more people have passed away due to the virus, raising our death toll to 326.

Perak government would welcome state of emergency in Gerik

A state of emergency could be declared in Gerik, Perak to postpone its parliamentary by-election, following the death of its incumbent earlier this week.

The state Menteri Besar says it would welcome the decision as now is not the time for an election due to the current COVID-19 situation.

This, as the Batu Sapi parliamentary by-election in Sabah was postponed after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong declared a state of emergency there yesterday.

Government to pay RM94 Million to COVAX

Malaysia is set to pay RM94 million as an upfront payment to join the global COVID-19 vaccine development platform COVAX.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister says the payment will guarantee the country early access to a supply of vaccines.

He adds that the relevant authorities are now finalizing a date to sign the agreement.
