Singapore urged to rethink move to match Malaysian road charge

Jan 14, 2017

The Transport Ministry says Malaysia's 20 ringgit road charge for vehicles entering from Singapore is not discriminatory against drivers from the republic, as this fee will eventually be implemented at all our border checkpoints.

As such, minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has called on Singapore to reconsider its decision to match the Malaysian road charge, especially since the republic's existing charge of 35 dollars for foreign vehicles is already a burden.

Malaysia's collection of the road charge at the Johor Causeway and Second Link Crossing, took effect in November last year.
