Ill-fated Sabah catamaran did not use designated jetty

Jan 31, 2017

The tour company that owned the catamaran which sank on the way to Pulau Mengalum, Sabah on Saturday had illegally used a village jetty in Tanjung Aru to transport tourists.

The state govt says under existing regulations, boats used for marine tourism are only supposed to use designated jetties, where they are required to submit a list of passengers, and the total number they are transporting.

30 people were on board the catamaran when it capsized, killing 3 people while 5 others are still missing.
