The government has no plans to follow the UK's lead, and abolish additional charges imposed on credit cards used in retail shopping.
The Finance Ministry says scrapping the charges may not necessarily benefit the Malaysian economy.
Instead, it reckons the move could encourage excessive spending, and further increase household debt.
