Illegal immigrants who've failed to obtain e-cards, are urged to surrender to the authorities to avoid heavy fines and jail time.The Immigration Department says those who turn themselves in will only have to pay a 400 ringgit compound, compared to the five thousand ringgit fine for not having an e-card. In fact, if their case is brought to court, illegals could be hit with a minumum fine of 10 thousand ringgit. The Department adds that so far, its detained over two thousand illegal foreigners and 44 errant employers, since the e-card registration deadline expired on June 30th.
