DPM not ruling out possibility of police having 2 Deputy IGPs

Jul 07, 2017

The Deputy Prime Minister is not ruling out the possibility of PDRM having two posts for Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi neither denied nor cofirmed that there'll be two deputies, but says such a move could help with handling the rising threat of terrorism.

He adds that the Government would only make an announcement on the second deputy, after a meeting by the police commission.

Such a move would also require the consent of the Yang DiPertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, the IGP says there's nothing unusual about the recent personnel reshuffle within the police force.

Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar says its normal for staff to move around within the organisation, especially after someone retires.

Separately, PDRM has signed an MoU with University Teknologi Malaysia, to work together in the field of research and education.

The agreement will see those studying forensic science getting the chance to train alongside the police.

Cops will also benefit by being exposed to the latest scientific methods.
