It'll soon cost more to visit the doctor

Jun 12, 2019

You might soon have to fork out more money when you visit a private clinic.

The Health Ministry has bowed to pressure from doctors, who have been complaining about fees that have remained stagnant for 27 years.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad will table a proposal for a fee amendment for private GPs at the next National Cost of Living Action Council, before speaking to the Cabinet.

The current consultation fee for doctors at private clinics is only between RM10 and RM35, while doctors in private hospitals can command fees of between RM30 and RM125.

Cameron Highlands MP Ramli Mohd Noor says authorities cannot lower their guard as 14 lives have already been lost.

Meanwhile, the DPM chaired an emergency meeting on the Kampung Kuala Koh situation yesterday and involved several top ministers.

The disease is still spreading in the Orang Asli village - with two new cases of infection reported yesterday.

However, Kelantan Perhilitan says the Kuala Koh National Park is still safe to visit, despite it only being a kilometre away from the village.

MACC Act does not need change

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker believes there's no need to amend the MACC Act, to improve the procedure for appointing a chief commissioner.

Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof said new chief Latheefa Koya had been appointed as per the act and there's no need to continue with the controversy.
