Balloon explosion in Putrajaya cause by hydrogen gas

Authorities have idenfied the cause of the balloon explosion, that left 16 people injured in Putrajaya on Saturday.

Police say the explosion happened because the balloons were filled with highly-flamable hydrogen gas, instead of helium, which is safer but more expensive. 

Earlier reports said the the bunch of balloons exploded when someone used a cigarette lighter to cut the strings that the balloons were tied to. 


Enforcement of vaping ban still under discussion

The government is studying the possibility of banning the use of e-cigarettes and vaping devices completely.

The Health Minisrty says a special working committee has been formed under the ministry to study it further, before a final decision is made.

Meanwhile, according to a study, over 9 percent of e-cigarette users in the country are schoolchildren.

The deputy Women Minister says has dismissed the notion that women will abuse their maternity leave by going on holiday, when it's extended to 90 days. 

Hannah Yeoh says the period will allow mothers to develop a strong bond with their babies.

This is after Budget 2020 progovernment’s move to raise the maternity leave period to 90 days through Budget 2020.
