MP's could be docked allowance for not attending Parliament

MPs have been threatened with allowance cuts if they fail to attend Parliament without a valid reason.

The Dewan Rakyat Speaker says since an MP's salary is protected under the Federal Constitution, authorities will instead dock the RM500 daily Parliament attendance allowance.

Earlier, the Prime Minister said MPs who have been absent have already been given warnings. 

However, Tun M denied there is a dicipline issue among lawmakers, saying absenteeism is a normal occurance even in foreign countries. 

Tun won't retract controversial statement

The PM will not retract his statements on the Kashmir conflict even though it triggered private trade action against Malaysia.

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said it's important to stand up for others.

"Malaysia is a trading nation, we need markets so we are nice to people. But also we have to speak out for people. Sometimes what we say is liked by some and disliked by others"

Several traders and trade associations in India have called for a stop to imports of Malaysian palm oil after Tun M's recent comments about the Kashmir conflict. 

The Indian government, however has yet to take official action.

SOSMA detainees are well cared for

All 12 detainees held under SOSMA for suspected links to the LTTE terror group are well taken care of. 

The IGP called on their familes to be patient, after three wives of detainees staged a protest in front of Bukit Aman on Monday. 

Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador also clarified that family members are allowed to visit the detainees. 

Honest Malaysians leave subsidies for the deserving

Some honest Malaysians are pulling out of the Targeted Fuel Subsidy Programme because they consider themselves ineligible.

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister says some Bantuan Sara Hidup recipients admitted to earning more than the B40 range, and struck themselves out after checking the list of eligible BSH recipients on the Ministry's website.
