Dr Maszlee Resigns

Jan 02, 2020

Dr Maszlee Malik is stepping down as the Education Minister, effective tomorrow.

Dr Maszlee says the ministry achieved a lot under his stewardship, including efforts to reduce the workload of teachers.

However, his efforts were drowned out by media's focus on issues such as the teaching of jawi in vernacular schools.

Dr Maszlee made the announcement on the first day that kids returned to school.

Meanwhile, PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says Maszlee's replacement will be announced in due time.

It says this is to ensure nomination process goes on smoothly without any incident.

The Kimanis parliamentary by-election in Sabah is on January 18th.

35 thousand households in Johor have been left without water, after a high level of ammonia was detected in a river in Muar.

The state govt is investigating the source of the contamination, but so far authorities have ruled out sabotage.

This comes 10 months after the major pollution along Sungai Kim Kim, in Pasir Gudang.
