Wuhan coronavirus now closer to home

Jan 24, 2020

Four patients in Malaysia, suspected to have contracted the Wuhan coronavirus, have all tested negative for the disease.

The Health Ministry confirmed this, adding that all four have been placed in isolation wards for further observation.

Its also urging Malaysians to avoid non-essential travel to Wuhan for the time being, while those who've recently returned from the Chinese city are advised to immediately see a doctor, if they start showing symptoms like fever and breathing difficulties.

We also managed to get in touch with a local resident in Wuhan to find out more about the situation there, with the city effectively under quarantine.

She informed us that residents are now barred from leaving the city, even if they show no signs of illness.

People there have also been flocking to supermarkets to stock up on essentials, leading to price increases.

This comes as the death toll in China rose slightly to 18.

Singapore and Vietnam have also reported their first cases of the Wuhan coronavirus.
