Petition Calls For China Tourist Ban

Jan 26, 2020

An online petition, calling for the govt to temporarily ban Chinese tourists from entering Malaysia has now gained nearly 200 thousand votes.

The writer of the petition said it's because of the coronavirus outbreak there.

However, the govt says it has NO Plans to do so.

According to PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad govt has already set up extended screening procedures at airports and other entry points.

This comes as the death toll in China rose to over 50, while there are 1,600 confirmed cases.

The Health Ministry says there are now 4 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Malaysia.

The latest case is a 40-year-old man from Wuhan, China, who had arrived in JB from Singapore, and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Singapore has also confirmed a 4th case in the republic.

The Health Ministry has rubbished viral claims on social media, that a case was detected in Ipoh.

It also dismissed another social media rumour, that a prisoner had died after eating a mandarin orange that was contaminated with the coronavirus.

The Ministry urged the public not to spread false or unverified news.
