Situation better than predicted, but we still must observe caution

Apr 02, 2020

There are early indications that the Movement Control Order may be helping control the spread of Covid-19.

Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says the actual number of coronavirus cases has been lower than initially predicted.

However, he stressed that this does not mean we are out of danger, warning that we still need to be on our best behaviour during the next two weeks of the MCO, if we are to see a further drop in cases:

"It's still too early to tell if the Covid-19 situation can be brought under control best as possible, but what's important is that we stick to staying at home, wash your hands and practice social distancing."

This, as 142 new Covid-19 infections were reported yesterday, with two additional fatalities.

Don't head out too far

Any trips out of your home to buy food or essential items is now limited to within a 10km radius of your residence.

Exceptions will be made for those with valid reasons, but only with written permission from the police.

Failure to abide by the ruling can result in a RM1,000 fine or a jail term of up to six months.

Ramadan bazaars still in limbo

The government is willing to consider new suggestions on how to hold Ramadan bazaars safely amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Among the ideas its prepared to look into include drive-thru or even online versions of the traditional food bazaars.
