Malaysia's COVID-19 death toll now at 111

Two new COVID-19 deaths were reported today, raising the total to 111. 

Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says one of them was a man who was found dead in Rompin, Pahang.

He says authorities are still trying to determine how he became infected.  

58 more patients have recovered from COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 37 new cases were reported, raising the total to 6,779.

Of the total infections, over 1,300 are active cases.

Government clarifies SOP for holiday celebrations during CMCO

Visiting relatives during Hari Raya will only be allowed on the first day of Aidilfitri.

The Defence Minister says it will also apply to other festivities happening during the Conditional Movement Control Order.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob adds that you can only visit close family members, and only 20 people are allowed per house, but this also depends on the size of the premises.

Malaysia's GDP grows 0.7% in first quarter

Malaysia's GDP grew 0.7% in the first quarter of 2020, as the economy took a hit due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Bank Negara says it expects the economy to contract in the second quarter, due to the impact of both domestic and global coronavirus containment measures.

It expects the economy to pick up again in the second half of the year, as these containment measures are eased.
