Border control back on high alert

May 19, 2020

Strict border controls continue to be a high priority for the government, especially since a significant number of Covid-19 infections here are imported cases.

The Health Director-General says almost half of the 47 cases reported yesterday, involved patients who were infected overseas.

Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah adds that authorities will continue with the mandatory screening and quarantine of our students and workers returning from abroad, which has proven to be effective so far.

Separately, Dr Noor Hisham is reminding that recovered Covid-19 patients still need to self-quarantine for two weeks after being discharged from hospital.

He said this, when asked by reporters on whether patients who had recovered could receive visitors during the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.

-----

Speaking of Hari Raya, police say they will do all they can to track down those who make unauthorised trips back to their home towns for the holidays.

Besides roadblocks, the cops will also conduct checks in housing areas and villages to identify those who’ve violated the interstate travel ban.
