Government to maintain 2021 GDP growth target

The government will not revise its GDP target for this year, despite the re-introduction of the Movement Control Order, and the proclamation of a state of emergency.

The Finance Minister says for now it will maintain its current forecast of 6.5% to 7.5% growth.

It adds that the government has no immediate plans to raise the current debt ceiling.

EMCO at Pekan Nenas Immigration Depot

An Enhanced MCO is set to be enforced at the Pekan Nenas Immigration Detention Depot in Johor, due to a rise in COVID-19 infections.

The Defence Minister says the order will take effect from midnight tonight.

He adds that 24 illegal immigrants were arrested, under the ongoing Ops Benteng yesterday. 

Meanwhile the govt has urged people with with information on illegal immigrants to contact the relevant authorities, as part of efforts to fight the spread of COVID-19

Malaysia reports over 3,600 more COVID-19 cases

The Health Ministry says 3,631 new Covid-19 cases were reported today.

Selangor had the highest number of new cases, followed by Johor, Sabah and KL

The death toll rose by 18.
