Health DG concerned by Covid-19 infection rate among infants and kids
Jun 03, 2021
Parents and guardians have been urged to be more proactive in protecting their children from Covid-19.
Health Director General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is concerned about the situation involving Covid-19 and kids, especially those involving infants.
He advised parents to constantly monitor their children’s movements, ensuring that they stay at home and that they always wear a mask if forced to leave their home.
This comes after it was revealed that over 82,000 cases of Covid-19 infection in the country involved infants and kids.
Malaysia reported 126 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, the highest daily death figure to date.
This brings the overall death toll to 2,993.
Meanwhile, 7,703 infections were registered yesterday, with active cases at over 82,000.
The Health Ministry has detected 22 new Covid-19 clusters.
11 were workplaces clusters, 7 were community related, 2 were in the education sector while high-risk groups and detention centres recorded 1 each.
More than 3 million people in the country have been vaccinated against Covid-19, with over 1 million completing both doses.
This is equivalent to slightly over 4% of 26.5 million people targeted to be vaccinated in the National Immunisation Programme to achieve herd immunity.
