first day of interstate travel saw highway traffic rise

It seems that many are already travelling again, after state borders were allowed to reopen yesterday.

The Health Minister says there was a 14% rise in traffic along PLUS highways on the first day of interstate travel.

Khairy Jamaluddin adds that highway concessionaires will be reminded to ensure COVID-19 SOPs are in place at their RnRs.

Meanwhile many more are expected to travel this weekend, ahead of the upcoming public holiday next Tuesday.

An exact date has yet to be set to roll out booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Ministry says among others, it must consider global vaccine demands.

It’s because some countries are still behind on giving out the jab, and they will be given priority for vaccine supplies.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry says new COVID cases in the country rose to 7,276 today.

Those who still refuse the COVID jab cannot be forced to take the injection.

However, Minister in the PM's Department Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad reckons it's only a matter of time until they choose to be vaccinated.

This, especially with all the restrictions imposed on unvaccinated persons.

He adds that the government will continue with efforts to encourage vaccinations.
