Multi-cornered fights in store for Johor election

There will be several multi-cornered fights in store for some of the big seats at next month’s Johor state election.

Based on early reports after the completion of the nomination process this morning…

Kempas will be a seven-way fight…

It will be a six-cornered fight for the Larkin and Puteri Wangsa seats…

Caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohamad will face a four-way battle for the Benut seat…while the Layang-Layang, Machap and Rengit seats will also see four-cornered fights.

57 new Covid-19 fatalities were reported nationwide yesterday, up from 46 the previous day.

14 of these were classified as brought-in-dead cases.

This, as the number of new Covid infections dropped slightly yesterday to 30,644.

Selangor recorded the most cases at nearly 7,300…followed by Sabah, Penang and Kedah.

The MAEPS Covid quarantine and treatment center in Serdang was re-activated yesterday.

The Health Ministry says it is to prevent hospitals from getting overcrowded, and to allow them the flexibility of managing bed capacity.

It comes as more Category 1 and 2 patients with underlying conditions are being admitted as a precaution, before their condition worsens.

The Prime Minister has once again assured there will be no closures of the economic and industrial sectors, despite the high number of Covid cases.

He says this is because the vast majority of cases are not serious, adding that we need to start living with the coronavirus.

NATO has deployed its rapid response force, to bolster defences in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The alliance says it involves air, sea and land operations…to allow it to act quickly to any contingency.

This, as Russian tanks were seen entering the Ukrainian capital Kiev for the first time since the invasion began last week.
